I just got a job with the Bicycle Transportation Alliance for spring and fall teaching bike safety to kids! Hot shit! It's in Albany... 30 miles RT ( M-F ). Yeah baby! Lots of road time. This is so much better than sitting in a classroom slaving for a grade!

Here is the question: What the fuck have i been doing all that degree seeking shit for anyway? to get a job outside of my field because I like it better? anyone feel my pain>?

congrats on the job. that sounds awesome!!!!!! both the job and the riding!

yep. the pain...and all the debt that goes with it! sometimes you have to learn the hard way what you already knew!

got myself a master's degree. glad i did it. enjoyed the learning - MSc Development Studies - London School of Economics...revolution and war my 'specialty.'
i messengered all the way through the program...would never have made it through without the bike...well, messengering i could have done without - but the money - was i a slave to the grade...or the cost of getting it????
but do i work in that field...kinda....
if you are true to your heart you will find a way to do what you love...and find a way for all the things you love to meet....so these days that means i am bike riding (still don't own a car), bookkeeping, yoga by donation teaching, mother of one...always looking for one more very quiet way to bring power to the people....and i hang my various degrees up on the wall and enjoy their magesty....

Got out of high school went straight to college at SFSU. Earned my degree. Always rode my bike to school. Became a messenger while in school. Completed my degree program, kept on messengering. Had a blast for 12 yrs. Got married, moved, reinvented myself as a painter/home improvement specialist, sobered up, divorced, still ride regularly(sorry Megan, had to buy a truck...), and have always worked for myself. Ride like ya do!

Congratulations! After 17 years on the road and NOT going to school, it's nice to read that I'm not doing the wrong thing. 3 years ago a disc jockey job fell into my lap, and I just completed writing a children's book that may or may not go anywhere. It's all in the journey - not the destination...or so I continue to hope.
